FUNKY FACT!!! Matt earned his nickname as the "Original Peko" for his Peko t-shirt worn as the waiter in RENT. When Matt left, Gavin D. Andrew (fellow cast member), presented him with a photograph of the cast all wearing peko t-shirts!!! |
I'M PAUL... LET'S BEGIN... In October 1998, the Australian Cast of the hit Broadway Musical "RENT" took to the stage of Sydney's Theatre Royal.
Matt was cast as "Paul", "The Waiter" and "Others". He was also the understudy for the lead role of Mark Cohen. Matt's roles required him to be energetic and flexible. Two skills Matt most certainly holds. Matt's facial expressions and body stature honestly made you believe that Jonathan Larson wrote that role for Matthew Lee. It was truly difficult to keep your eyes off Matt (hmmm....) whilst he was onstage for RENT. His charisma truly shone through. Matt only got to play the role of Mark once, so neither of us can report on his performance in the role. He left having earned the respect of the cast, crew and many adoring fans. |
